RIP Peaches Geldof

Peaches played with fire, she was an adult child with a legacy of heroin addiction woven into her upbringing. She got burnt, and leaves behind two beautiful babies. She knew the risks, she’d lost her own mother to an overdose. Though addiction is a mighty and relentless beast. It holds it’s prey close and whispers sweet nothings to tempt, to offer a brief and mindless escape from hurt and pain. Addiction is a disease, not a choice, and Peaches has paid the ultimate price.

My son, shared this link with me to watch her in an interview a few months ago, “Mum you’ll like this,” he said. Peaches, an advocate of attached parenting was clearly a loving Mum, articulate and impassioned. While she will be missed and sorrowfully grieved for, by her nearest and dearest, her death has sparked a sense of anger, some are scathing, reminiscent of Puritanical Witch hunters, many more are empathetic, thank goodness. Whatever your stance is, you’d do well to avoid the dark arts of meddling and instead re-read the words above from Mother Theresa, especially whenever the need to criticise others becomes apparent. Life is precious and rather than hurling insults at the dead, the haters might be advised to take a break from their ivory towers and “Be kind anyway,” perhaps “Give your best anyway.”

For…

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” ~ Lao Tzu

Courage brings hope,

Hope holds compassion,

Love knows acceptance,

Acceptance gives serenity.
